Simon Templar

Simon Templar, whose initials gave him the nickname 'The Saint', has two
main aims in life - acquiring material goods, preferably illegally, and
driving the gum-chewing Chief Inspector Teal inexorably towards a nervous
breakdown. Despite this, the man whose calling card is a haloed matchstick
figure is occasionally persuaded to fight on the side of the law - if the
cause is good and the reward sizeable. Not a secret agent, but he often brushes
up against the Secret Service in the course of his adventures - sometimes
on their side, sometimes not. First appearing in the novels of
Leslie Charteris in the 20s, the Saint has remained a popular figure with
his own niche in folklore. He appeared in numerous films, a 60s TV series
starring Roger Moore and, recently, a series of radio dramatisations.
